warning: i'm totally bragging
Happy Friday!! This morning, I headed to the Y to do my cardio, which felt pretty amazing. I came home, showered up, and had a french toast bagel with Land o' Lakes Light canola oil butter and a snickerdoodle protein milkshake.
Then, I headed in to rearrange and set up my little classroom. If any readers out there are new and don't know, I teach first grade. I just realized that this is going to be my TENTH year teaching and I can't even believe that. Teaching is hard these days because education has changed, schools have changed, kids have changed, the world has changed, the city's in which I teach has changed, our contracts are frozen...I have changed. I honestly don't know how long I will continue to teach, but I feel like I am good at keeping the whole thing as low-stress as possible, making it fun, and making these little kids' lives a little better. Anyways, today I moved a bunch of furniture around to make things flow a little better, unpacked everything, and just made it all neat and cute again.
I stopped at Bj's on the way home and stocked up on some things like giant seltzers, Powerade Zero, chicken breasts (which I have to go butterfly, weigh, label, and freeze!), deli meat, and broccoli. When I got home, I made a ham, turkey, spinach, tomato, and mustard sandwich on a Joseph's pita.
Mike grilled 90% lean beef burgers for dinner, and I had mine on a Fold It with a spinach, cucumber, and tomato salad on the side. I usually have chicken burgers, just because I really like them, but a real beef burger was nice change.
I think back to the days where we would never even think of eating at home on a Friday or weekend night (mostly because Mike insisted he had to get out of the house and have a change in our weekday routine come Thurs/Fri/Sat). But honestly, after many meals out over the years, and many take-out meals, we realized that the dinners we make are just BETTER. They're better FOR us, better for our wallet, our lifestyle, more filling, more nutritious... just better. This all happened gradually over the years- we stopped going out to eat mid-week, then we stopped getting take out on Sundays, then we stopped going out on Friday nights, and now we really only go out to eat if we are meeting friends, going out for a special date night, just mentally need to get out, or if we are really craving a specific dish.
Alright, now here comes the bragging....
Friday evenings and Saturday mornings are my absolute favorites.... they are the check in days for my nutrition clients! You guys, my clients are seriously crushing it. Some are brand spanking new, some have been with me for two months now. Some have a good amount of weight to lose, others have only a little, while some want to increase their lean muscle, but not gain fat. Some clients come to me in hopes of creating a healthier relationship with food, or a more balanced diet. Some clients are tired of feeling lethargic, beat up, and like they have no energy, and want to learn how to manipulate their nutrition to fuel their training. Some clients have been under eating for a long time, and want help increasing their metabolisms, so their bodies can function optimally again. I have new moms who want to feel like their old selves again and understand that nutrition is absolutely key to doing exactly that! One of my clients has lost 14 pounds in 8 weeks! Others have lost 6+ pounds while increasing their macros/calories. Some haven't lost or gained any weight, but each week, they get better at planning ahead, holding themselves accountable, taking care of themselves, and making choices that will get them closer to their goals. I just love helping my clients and supporting them as they develop a healthier relationship with food, learn to fuel their bodies in a balanced way, figure out what makes them feel good, and make better choices overall.
I am seriously bragging here, but this makes my heart SO HAPPY...
"I have been working with Lindsay for 8 weeks, and it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made when it comes to my overall health and performance. She has helped me to change my entire relationship with food. Depsite my hard training, I was frustrated because I felt that I could never build muscle and my strength was not improving. I was in a perpetual cycle of eating the same foods everyday and not eating nearly enough to support my activity level. Since working with Lindsay, I have been introducing foods into my diet that I haven't allowed myself to have in years in fear of getting fat. I am eating more, building muscle while staying lean, am crushing workouts, and have more energy than I ever remember having. Lindsay is really encouraging and supportive, and I have complete trust in her plan for me. She's taken all the guesswork out of how I can reach my goals. I highly recommend working with her - my only regret is not having started sooner!"
"I have been working with Lindsay for over a month on my nutrition and cutting. I was nervous to do a cut, since I figured I would be hungry all the time and lose strength in the gym, but not at all! Lindsay has made sure to take care of what I need both mentally and in terms of my nutrition and is so supportive, knowledgeable, and helpful. I am at my lowest weight this year and still hitting PRs in the gym, which I didn't think could happen. I have worked with other coaches in the past and Lindsay, by FAR, has been the best yet! I plan on working with her for much longer. I knew right away it was a great fit, she truly wants the best for her clients and listens, and went from a one month membership to adding another three and am planning on several more. I can't say enough good things about the experience, Lindsay is not only a huge inspiration to me, but an all around amazing coach."
Ok, I will stop for now, but my heart is just so happy tonight <3 I never thought I would want to "teach" adults, but I guess I am :)
I hope you have a great night!
