Hi!

Welcome to my blog where I give you a peek into how I live my healthy, happy life!

the week, the open, a surprise + lots of other things

the week, the open, a surprise + lots of other things

I was surprised to see 15 pull ups on Monday since Friday's WOD had 15 pull ups as well... I felt a lot better about this one, though, than I did about "Mary". I did all of the pull ups in sets of 5 and felt really good about all of them, so I guess that was a good thing! I was also trying not to finish too far behind Mike and pushed myself really hard through my last pull ups and row.

Tuesday was our first day of Push Press for this strength cycle. My old 1 rep max was 135, and I am hoping to get 145 {or more} by the end of this strength cycle, so I went off of 150 for my numbers. All of my sets felt really good. I have grown to really love the kettle bell WODs on strength days, too. They are only 10 minutes long, so I push myself as hard as I can and a lot of times, I end up sweatier from these than from metcons on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Tuesday's KB WOD was a good one, and my double unders were pretty good. I was happy to finish 10 1/2 rounds.

I was excited to do this partner WOD with Mike.... until we started and he got super frustrated with the handstand push ups and yelled at me a lot!!! It was an interesting one, and I think one positive thing that come out of it was that he learned how to kip handstand push ups mid-WOD. No positives came out of it for our marriage, though ;)

I was really excited to front squat again- it's been a long time since it's been in the strength rotation! My old 1 rep was 190 I think, and in November at the competition, we had to work to a 3 rep max and I got to 175#. I wasn't really sure what to go off of this time, or what my one rep max should be in the near future, My squats are feeling pretty strong lately, and all of the Oly work has worked my front squat a lot.

My coach said that my 1 rep for front squat should be between 90 and 95% of my 1 rep for my back squat, which would make it between 215 and 225. I'd LOVE to get 220, that sounds like a good number. So that is what I went off of and all of my sets felt awesome!

The KB WOD was a good one again... LOVED it!

On Thursday night, Mike and I went back to the box to watch the announcement for the first workout in the Open. I wasn't going to do the Open this year, and Mike had no interest whatsoever, but I am very happy I decided to just do it. It was exciting waiting to hear what the WOD would be, and it was cool to watch Mat Fraser and Rich Froning go head to head and test it out!! This excitement will hopefully make the long month of March go by a little faster!! {I think Mike is happy he signed up too because every time I see him on his iPad, he is checking the leader boards!}

I was excited about 15.1 and 15.1a, because I love all of the lifts, but I knew the toes to bar would hurt me. I am not good at them and I don't practice them {now I will work on them a lot more, though!!} My coach helped me with them earlier in the week and I got them pretty good. Even when I did 15.1, my first round of them was great, but after that they were no good and I was only doing a couple at a time and then getting no-reps, and it was frustrating! I was just looking forward to the snatches and deadlifts and then the clean and jerk.

Mike and I did the Open workout Friday morning, and like I said, I struggled with 15.1 because of the T2B, but I was happy with how I did on 15.1a. I clean and jerked 165#  and then got a PR on my clean with 170#. I was proud of myself for doing that with a slightly frustrated brain and tired shoulders. Here is a little video of me doing 15.1 and 15.1a:

Β

This week seriously exhausted me between all of the workouts, and a very very full week at work. It felt really good to "sleep in" until 7-something on Saturday morning! I felt very refreshed and I was so happy the sun was shining! I started the day with a little shopping at lululemon and got a protein-packed smoothie before I headed to the box.

I decided to take a day off from my Oly work and focus on some gymnastics stuff. I worked on pull ups {even sort of figured out the starting movements for butterfly pull ups}, banded muscle ups from the floor, and watched a bunch of people do the Open workout. I also talked with my coach about some things to focus on gymnastics-wise and I am ready to start focusing more on that starting tomorrow. I reallllly wish I had done gymnastics growing up!!

Mike came home from work and we watched the rest of the 2014 Games Behind-the-Scenes videos and I tried to pretend we were somewhere else...

This morning, I woke up to the best surprise ever! I am not an easy person to surprise, but my mom managed to do it.

She has always been the best birthday celebrator ever. I have the most amazing memories from most of my birthdays because of her- she just knows how to make things extra special all the time. It makes me excited to wake up tomorrow!

Mike cleaned a lot and then we went out for some omelets and to give Brutus a bath.

I am 100% obsessed with my new camo-ish jogger pants and their hot pink zippers up the sides. They are so comfortable and cute and are perfect with these nanos.

When we got home, I felt a little creative and whipped this up for our bathroom.

Then I decided to do some "spring cleaning" in my Etsy shop and deleted a ton of items and simplified the whole thing. I made a couple of new, simpler, more modern looking baby announcements that I like a lot {if you like the old ones, I will still make those, too, just ask!!}

And a little thought before I say goodnight...
