Hi!

Welcome to my blog where I give you a peek into how I live my healthy, happy life!

wrapping up the week

We ended up getting back from Florida on Tuesday morning at 3am. We were supposed to be home around midnight, but our plane literally almost died in the sky and we had to fly back to Atlanta {with no navigation and something else wrong} to switch planes. I thought about just staying awake, getting organized, and then heading to CrossFit and work {it was the 1st day of Professional Development for us teacher}, but ended up choosing 3 hours of sleep. That meant that I had to head to CrossFit after school to get my Deficit Deadlifts in!!

I had never done these until Tuesday. They are like regular deadlifts, except you stand on a platform a few inches high and pull from there. Longer pull = stronger you! I ended up doing 185x5 as my last set, but i could've gone heavier {maybe +10 or 15 pounds?} Next time!

Then, MIke took me for ice cream. They were all out of rainbow sprinkles, so I guess that means it really is the end of summer :(

Wednesday mornnig, we had a fun Metcon! I am way better at double unders, but I still don't do them in WODs under pressure and exhaustion, so I did 75 regular jumpropes in each round of this one.

I felt awesome when I finished. 125 box jumps is a whole lot!

Thursday morning, we worked on Shoulder Press for the first time since we have been at CrossFit Journey. In the past couple of strength cycles, we have done Push Press and Push Jerk, both of which you really use your leg strength to help get the bar overhead. My 1 rep max for Push Press is 125# and for Push Jerk it is 130#, so doing these Shoulder Presses with what seemed like such light weight was weird. It felt good though, it really lit up my whole body, especially my core, back, shoulders, etc. Can't wait to get stronger with these babies!

After the shoulder presses, we did a nice, sweaty, engine burning kettle bell WOD of 5 rounds of 20 Russian Swings {I used the Rx 35# kb} and 10 burpees. I busted my butt and finished in 7:36.

Yesterday also marked the last day of Summer Professional Development for teachers {truly the worst 3 days of the entire year}, ANDDD it marked 4 months until our wedding!!!! I seriously cannot wait!

I figured it was the perfect day to go pick up Mike's ring! I told him I would like him to start wearing it now, but I guess I have to wait 121 days. It looks sooo good on his hand, I just love it.

Speaking of love... my Lilly painted Jack Rogers. I will wear them all year long.

Today's WOD was amazing. An EMOM {Every Minute on the Minute} Death By Back Squat. Now, I love back squats. My coaches helped me choose my weight to use {115#} and that sounded easy to me. I was expecting to use 155#.  HAHA.

Here's how it went:

  • Minute 1: so easy, way too long of a rest time, made me nervous
  • Minute 2: so easy, hate waiting for the next minute
  • Minute 3: no problem
  • Minute 4: easy, still had more than 40 seconds of rest
  • Minute 5: no problem, a little less rest this time
  • Minute 6: legs are starting to burn a bit, but not too bad, still had a good 25 second or so rest
  • Minute 7: same as minute 6
  • Minute 8: lactic acid really started building up in my legs, focused on two reps at a time
  • Minute 9: focused on 2 reps at a time and getting to my goal of finishing at least 10 minutes of the WOD
  • Minute 10: happy to make it to 10 minutes, finished with maybe 15 seconds of rest, starting to worry about when i would fail
  • Minute 11: pushed hard through this, used mike next to me and my coach yelling at me as motivation!!
  • Minute 12: i reallllly wanted to get through this minute, legs were on FIRE, didn't even feel like they were part of my body. i pushed on through and made it! only had a few seconds until the next minute though!
  • Minute 13: took a few seconds to shake out my legs and my coach told me to just get a few or as many as i could in.... so mentally, that helped me because i just wanted to get SOME... i ended up getting 8 more reps and then the next minute started, so i was cut-off.

After the workout, I practiced some kipping pull-ups and was real happy with how far I have come this summer! The competition is really what forced me to put a lot of work into them, but I just really wanted to be able to do them for myself {and to make all the metcons with pull-ups not so daunting}. I tried embedding the video I had Mike take today on here, but it won't work, so you will have to go to my instagram to check it out!

Mike and I then went to BJs for tons of groceries and supplies, and Home Depot to have tileboard cut for my students to use as whiteboards, and we were both waddling around. I am scared for how our legs will feel in the morning!!
