Hi!

Welcome to my blog where I share what I eat, how I train, and how I live a happy, healthy life!

a whole week in one post

a whole week in one post

Monday

Monday's WOD looked perfect to me.... until I started it!! Maybe it was that I just didn't warm up enough, or maybe I was just still super beat up from the week before, but as soon as I did the first 9 deadlifts and 95# felt heavy, I knew it wasn't going to be good. I think I did two hang power snatches before I decided to drop down to 85#. Still heavy, but more manageable.

I finished in 11:38 and learned two lessons: warm up a lot more, and get stronger!! Grrrr.

On Monday night, another athlete and I started a 4-day-a-week Oly skill program. It's going to help us get our Olympic lifts closer to where we want to be... so excited!

Tuesday

Woof. Tuesday morning was back squat 5x3. This strength cycle has been pretty choppy, but back squat has been especially inconsistent for me. I missed the last 5x3 because it was right before the competition I did in November. I have been trying to go off of 240# for my numbers, so I wanted to get 215x3 on Tuesday, but it wasn't happening. I got it for one. I got 205x3 and was just frustrated and felt super defeated and angry.

I took out my anger on the Kettle Bell WOD, though, and crushed it. I finished the whole EMOM because I wasn't going to let myself suck at two things in one morning.

That morning was also a 2 hour delay at school because of all of the ice, so I stayed at the Box for a little bit and let my coach do some experiments on me to prove to me that I am strong. First, he had me slowly squat to the bottom with 245# and then just try to drive up for I don't know how many seconds, maybe 15 or 20? Then, he had me put 315# on the bar and stand with it and back up onto the platform and stand there with it and re-rack it. I thought the six 45lb plates on the bar looked so scary, but I was actually fine standing with it. THEN he had me add another 45lb plate to each side, which was 405# and I thought he was crazy. He had me stand with it for 10 seconds. Then 15 seconds, Then 20 seconds. Then 25 or 30 seconds, I don't even know!! The first two times, I was kind of shaky, but stabilized myself. Then the last two times, I was fine, just locked everything in real tight, focused, and my core felt so strong and stable. It was a fun experiment and I think he proved to me that my body is super strong, and it is my head that becomes my problem!

Wednesday

I did finally like Wednesday's WOD. It was a lot of box jumps, but I just pushed on through because I had to have a good WOD to make up for Monday and Tuesday.

In between all the Crossfit and lifting and teaching, I've been trying to get ready for our wedding/vacation/Christmas. It's a lot. There are some things that are just not going to happen, such as a haircut/pedicure/getting my nails done. I have an amazing girl doing my hair and makeup for our wedding, but normal person/regularly scheduled haircuts are not my thing! I haven't gotten my hair cut since March I think. Pretty ridiculous, but that's me. I'm going to get a manicure and pedicure the day before the wedding I think! I didn't even have wedding shoes until I ordered them today {hopefully they come by Thursday when we leave!!} I just need someone to plan, book, and pay for these things and I'll happily do them. Mike doesn't care anyways....

Thursday

I was up most of Wednesday night thinking about how I couldn't let myself down again and *had* to reach my goal for this strength cycle on my deadlift... 280#. I was nervous on Thursday morning because I was exhausted, but I was determined. So I did it...

280 doesn't even sound like a lot/enough to me, so I'm excited to work hard in the next few months and get up to 300+ pounds!!

Friday

I had a lovely day off from school today {Friday}, so I slept nice and late until I was woken up by my adorable snuggle buddy.

Mike also has Fridays off, so we relaxed for a bit, then went to the Box and did our thing. He did the WOD and I did my Oly skill work only because it was working up to heavy maxes on both the snatch and clean and jerk. I was sooo happy to get my 118# snatch on the first attempt! That's a new PR for me, and it definitely tells me that the skill work that I've been doing is already working and I'm getting stronger because I didn't fail at all until I attempted 123# :) here's a video of 118...

I really can't wait to go up and up from here... After our workouts, we went to brunch and then Mike and I spent the rest of the day getting organized with our packing and doing some errands.

Obviously the juice bar was one of our stops.

And we had to stop at three stores searching for a fine point gold pen and mike didn't even freak out... Proof that he is ready to be my husband!!!

I hope you all had a good week!!!
