Hi!

Welcome to my blog where I give you a peek into how I live my healthy, happy life!

a bear, deadlifts & rowing away

Monday morning, we were in for a treat: a bear complex! It was a "pick your own weight" kind of WOD {suggested weight for women was 65# or 63# on the female bar}. It was considered Rx if you did not let the bar rest on the ground at all during each round {basically for 35 movements at a time you couldn't let it rest} So that is what I did and it burneddddd my traps and shoulders a whole lot. But, I loved it at the same time.

I was happy that I wasn't so exhausted like I was last Monday morning after another tough/busy Saturday. I think resting on Sunday is 100% key for me- it is my only rest day, so from now on, I will take it very seriously :)

Here's a picture to show you my skin color after the spray tan, 18 hours of "soaking in", and three non-scrubbing showers. It really is not different from my normal skin color right now, but it did "even me out" I suppose.

This morning, we started a new strength cycle which includes regular deadlifts, high bar back squats, and push presses. I am excited! I wasn't quite sure what number to go off of today for my percentages because in August, my deadlift 1 rep max was 250#, and then a couple weeks ago, my deficit deadlift 1 rep max was also 250# {which means that my regular deadlift must be much higher}. So I started off taking my percentages from 260#, but that felt easy, so I went up more than what my numbers were telling me. I ended up at 225# for 5 in my last set, and honestly, I think I could have done a bit more. That would predict my 1 rep max to be about 280#, which would be amazing. Next week it will be 5x3 and we will check my numbers out then.

This afternoon, I went back for the Endurance WOD, which I did on the rower because I am trying to get used to feeling like crap on the rower!! The workout was 10X200m and 5x400m. It never SOUNDS bad. The last couple of 200's were tough because I was really trying to keep up with my times! The last two aren't listed in this picture, but I did them in 48.4 and 46.3. I wanted to vom.

And then the 5x400 felt terrible after all those 200's! I played so many mind games with myself for each interval and swore under my breath pretty much the whole time. These EWODs are serious workouts, especially with the rower timing every interval and your rest and recording it! For someone as OCD as me, it really puts on the pressure and I find myself really truly pushing myself every time! It's going to be a fun fall/winter with my new best friend, the rower <3

I love Tuesday nights because it is an early night for Mike and there is no football on! So it is a nice relaxing night and we eat dinner while watching Jeopardy like old folks. Mike made us this baked chicken breast stuffed with ham and feta and TONS of broccoli. It was amazing. Those are little sprinkles of feta baked on the top...

I'm pretty much ready for bed now. Check out this article my coach posted about the importance of sleep! I am someone who NEEDS her sleep or everything else pretty much falls apart for me. I feel terrible, end up getting sick with a cold or something, and am just miserable, nevermind the effects it has on my performance at CrossFit. I usually go to bed around 9 or 9:30 {even on the weekends!!} and I get up at 5am. It may make me an old lady, but it makes me strong, healthy and happy!!

I hope you had a great day!!
